Mining & Heavy Industry Services Darwin
If you’re running equipment in the NT — whether that’s on a mine site, an offshore platform, a remote civil project or a government facility — you already know that Darwin isn’t the easiest place to source specialist services quickly. Things take time to arrive from interstate. Suppliers down south don’t always understand the pace of a shutdown or the urgency of a compliance issue.
We do.
Laser Legends is based in Winnellie, Darwin. We make custom gaskets and produce laser engraved tags, plates, labels and signs for mining, oil and gas, construction and government clients across the Northern Territory. When you need something made locally, made correctly and made fast — we’re the team to call.
What We Do for the Mining and Resources Sector
We’re not a large corporation and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a local Darwin workshop with serious capability — a laser engraving system, an oscillating knife cutter, and a team that knows how to turn around industrial jobs without the usual back-and-forth.
Our two core services for the mining and heavy industry sector are:
- Custom gasket cutting — laser cut and knife cut gaskets in any shape, any size, any material
- Laser engraving — asset tags, serial number plates, compliance plates, equipment labels, safety signs and more
Both services are produced in-house at our Winnellie workshop. No outsourcing, no freight delays waiting for something to come back from interstate. You deal with us directly and we get it done.

Custom Gaskets Darwin
Getting a replacement gasket on a remote NT site or in the middle of a shutdown can be a genuine problem. Standard sizes don’t always match ageing or imported equipment. Waiting days for something to arrive from a southern supplier isn’t always an option.
We cut custom gaskets from your sample, drawing, DXF file or even a tracing of the original part. If the old gasket is worn out and you need us to match it, bring it in or send it up and we’ll reverse-engineer the shape and cut you a replacement.
We cut gaskets using two methods:
Our laser cutter handles flat sheet materials with precision — ideal for clean, repeatable cuts on thinner sheet gasket materials where accuracy is critical.
Our oscillating knife cutter handles a much broader range of materials — including thicker, tougher and more compressed materials that a laser won’t cut cleanly. This gives us a capability most Darwin suppliers don’t have.
Materials we cut gaskets from include:
- Natural rubber and neoprene
- PTFE (Teflon) and expanded PTFE
- Graphite sheet and compressed graphite
- Cork and cork-rubber composites
- Nitrile (NBR) and silicone
- Fibre and compressed fibre sheet
- Foam and closed-cell foam materials
- Custom and specialty gasket sheet stock
If you’re not sure which material you need, tell us the application — fluid type, temperature, pressure, flange spec — and we’ll recommend the right option. We’d rather spend five minutes getting the material right than have you come back with a leaking joint.
Gasket cutting is available for:
- Pipe flanges and valve bodies
- Heat exchangers and pressure vessels
- Pump housings and compressor components
- Manholes, hatches and access covers
- Custom and one-off equipment
- Replacement gaskets for obsolete or imported plant
We handle one-off emergency replacements as well as bulk production runs. If you need 200 identical gaskets for a scheduled maintenance program, we can batch cut them accurately and consistently.

Laser Engraving for Mining and Heavy Industry
Asset identification, compliance marking and equipment labelling aren’t optional on a mine site or industrial facility — they’re a safety and regulatory requirement. The problem is that standard printed labels and stick-on tags don’t last in the NT. Heat, UV, humidity, chemical exposure and physical handling destroy them quickly.
Laser engraved tags and plates are the right solution. The marking is permanent — it’s part of the material surface, not sitting on top of it. A laser engraved stainless steel asset tag installed on a piece of plant today will still be fully legible in ten years.
We produce engraved identification products for mining and heavy industry including:
Asset Tags and Serial Number Plates
Every piece of plant and equipment needs a permanent identity. We produce asset tags and serial number plates in stainless steel and aluminium — with asset numbers, serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes and any other data fields your asset management system requires.
Send us your asset register as a spreadsheet and we’ll batch produce tags matched to each record. Sequential numbering, custom prefixes, barcodes and QR codes all available.
Compliance Plates
We produce compliance plates for plant, machinery, pressure vessels, lifting equipment and trailers to Australian standards. Compliance plates can include plant registration numbers, working load limits, pressure ratings, test dates, manufacturer details and Australian Standards references.
Compliance plates are typically produced in stainless steel or aluminium and fixed permanently to the equipment. We can match your existing plate format or help you design a layout that meets your regulatory requirements.
Equipment Labels and Nameplates
Machine labels, equipment nameplates, control panel labels, valve tags and pipe markers — all laser engraved for permanence. We produce equipment labels for Darwin and NT industrial operators in traffolyte, aluminium and stainless steel.
Safety Signs and Warning Labels
Mine sites and industrial facilities need safety signage that lasts. We produce engraved safety signs and warning labels in stainless steel and aluminium — Danger, Warning, Caution, Mandatory, Prohibition and Emergency signs to AS 1319 and ISO 3864 standards.
Engraved safety signs don’t fade in the Top End sun or peel in the wet season. For remote sites where replacing signs is difficult and expensive, engraved metal signs are the practical choice.
FIFO and Crew Equipment Tags
Keeping track of tools and personal equipment across FIFO rosters and multi-site operations is easier with numbered tags. We produce small, tough tool tags and personal equipment labels that can be fixed, cable-tied or riveted to gear — numbered to your asset register or crew list.
Oil and Gas — Darwin and Offshore NT
Darwin is the onshore hub for some of Australia’s largest oil and gas operations — INPEX’s Ichthys LNG project, Santos operations and the growing Beetaloo Basin gas development. Offshore platforms, onshore processing facilities and pipeline infrastructure all require reliable local suppliers for maintenance, compliance and identification products.
We supply engraved tags, compliance plates, equipment labels and custom gaskets to Darwin-based operators and contractors supporting the NT oil and gas sector. Our stainless steel and PTFE products are suited to the demanding requirements of petrochemical and LNG environments.
If you have a shutdown coming up or a compliance requirement that needs to be addressed quickly, call us directly on (08) 7918 8600 and we’ll work out the fastest way to get your job done.
Hard Rock Mining and Remote NT Sites
The NT is home to significant hard rock and open cut mining operations — McArthur River Mine, Gem Diamonds’ Merlin project, and a pipeline of new projects coming online across the Barkly and Top End regions. Remote site operations have specific challenges — getting parts and consumables to site is expensive and slow, and breakdowns or compliance gaps can’t wait.
We work with mine operators, maintenance contractors and procurement teams to supply gaskets, tags and labels that are made correctly the first time and delivered on time. For remote site customers we dispatch via freight and can work to your site’s scheduled freight runs.
Construction, Civil and Government
Darwin’s construction and civil sector is active — defence infrastructure, NT government projects, Darwin Port, roads and utilities. We supply asset tags, compliance plates, safety signs and custom engraving to construction companies, civil contractors and government agencies operating across the Darwin region and the NT.
For government and defence clients we understand procurement requirements and can provide invoices, material certifications and documentation to meet your supply chain requirements.
